Medical Billing for Prime Healthcare Affiliated Physicians

Independent physicians affiliated with a Prime Healthcare hospital may still need their own billing team. Synergy helps assess the practice’s professional billing workflow, software access and outstanding claims before defining a service plan.

Start with who owns the physician billing

Hospital affiliation, admitting privileges and employment are different arrangements. A practice that chooses its own billing company needs a clear boundary between its professional claims and the hospital’s facility charges. We begin with the billing entity, provider roster, practice locations and the work your team can assign.

If the health system already manages the practice’s billing under an employment or services agreement, we first establish whether there is an independent scope to discuss. This page is for physician practices exploring billing support; patient questions about a hospital bill belong with that hospital’s billing department.

Plan around the actual Epic or legacy workflow

Prime has published plans for Epic transitions at selected Illinois hospitals. A hospital’s planned conversion date does not establish the current billing system of an affiliated office. Your practice may use a hosted Epic environment, a separate practice-management system or a combination during a transition.

We review the application in use, who grants billing roles, claim submission and remittance routes, and which team owns claims created before the change. If Epic billing work is proposed, the host must authorize the roles needed for that practice. Referral or chart-viewing access alone does not establish billing access.

Keep old claims and new work accountable

A useful transition plan separates new charges from older balances by system and date of service. It names an owner for unbilled visits, rejected claims, payer denials, secondary claims and unresolved payments. We agree how the practice will see status and exceptions while access is being arranged.

Synergy is based in Aurora, Illinois. We can discuss full billing support or a defined follow-up assignment for an independent office, with the service scope and access requirements agreed before work begins.

What to discuss first

  • The physician billing entity and whether it selects its own billing vendor.
  • Current office software and any confirmed transition dates.
  • Who approves external billing users and which functions they may perform.
  • Ownership of legacy accounts and open claims during the handoff.

Common questions

Does affiliation mean Synergy can immediately use the hospital’s Epic system?

No. We assess the practice’s actual billing environment and required host permissions. An affiliation or a hospital’s Epic rollout does not itself grant external billing access.

Can you help if our office uses a different billing system?

Yes, we can discuss a scoped service assessment for the system the office actually uses. Tell us the product and the problem so we can confirm access and the work required.
