Medisoft Billing Services
Some practices keep primary billing in house and look for help with the secondary claim work that follows. Medisoft can support that split, but only when responsibilities are defined and access is authorized. This page outlines how a secondary-claim and COB handoff is usually assessed before any scope is agreed.
Where a split billing arrangement usually fits
A practice may want to keep primary claim creation and payer relationships in house while handing off the follow-up that begins after the primary payer adjudicates. In Medisoft, that work sits around the original claim, its payment history and whatever secondary or patient responsibility follows. The first question is which tasks the practice wants to stop owning.
That boundary is mapped in writing before work starts. Primary claim ownership, secondary claim ownership and the person authorized to speak with payers are named separately, because a handoff that blurs them tends to produce duplicate filings and unclear accountability.
Secondary claims and coordination of benefits
A secondary claim depends on clean primary adjudication data: the explanation of benefits, allowed amount, paid amount and the coordination of benefits order the two payers expect. If the primary remittance is incomplete or late, the secondary filing waits or risks rejection.
Medisoft records this history in ways that vary by version and by how payers were configured, so the actual setup is reviewed rather than assumed. The assessment covers where primary EOB or ERA detail is kept, how COB order is documented, and who watches secondary timely filing limits today.
Primary remittance and transfer status
Before secondary follow-up, we check the primary adjudication, posted payment and adjustments, remaining insurance balance and the next payer. The handoff must show whether a secondary claim was actually created or submitted. We agree who obtains missing remittances and who owns each unresolved account.
Reporting belongs in the same conversation. A workable handoff needs a view of claims waiting on primary payment, claims ready for secondary filing and claims already filed with a secondary payer. What the practice's current reports actually show is confirmed before any routine is proposed.
Validation before any engagement
Medisoft has shipped in several versions and can run locally or hosted, and interface options differ across those setups, so no particular screens, exports or interfaces are assumed. Product, version, hosting arrangement and access method are confirmed first.
We confirm authorized access and a business associate agreement, then agree on the claims included, reporting and fees before work begins. Your practice can retain initial billing while Synergy works the agreed secondary-claim queue.
Our Medisoft secondary-claim work
Our public anonymous case describes secondary-claim follow-up while the practice retained initial billing. See the reported balances, scope and measurement limits.
What to discuss first
- Who currently owns primary claim creation, and who would own secondary filing after a handoff?
- How are primary EOB and ERA details stored and matched to the original claim?
- Where is the coordination of benefits order documented for each payer pair?
- What does the practice's Medisoft version and hosting arrangement allow a support user to access?
Common questions
Can you take over only secondary claims while we keep primary billing?
That is the arrangement this discussion is built around, but it has to fit the practice. The review looks at how primary payments and transfer status are handled, who owns each claim record, and whether access and permissions allow a separate team to work the secondary side. Scope is agreed in writing after that review.
Do you work directly inside our Medisoft system?
The access method is confirmed during assessment. Depending on the setup, work may be done through authorized remote access to the practice system under a signed business associate agreement. No particular version, interface or integration is assumed to exist.
What happens when the primary remittance is missing?
The secondary claim generally cannot be completed without the primary adjudication detail. The assessment identifies who retrieves missing remittances today and how those gaps are tracked, so the handoff does not quietly stall while everyone assumes another team is watching.
