Veradigm / Allscripts Billing Services

Allscripts and Veradigm names have moved across products and years, and two practices saying they use the same brand may be running very different software. Payerpath adds a clearinghouse layer that some setups use and others do not. Before any billing support discussion, the product, version and claim path need to be identified.

Why the product name is not enough

Practices often say they use Allscripts or Veradigm, and that can mean several different products acquired, renamed or rebuilt over the years. Claim entry, editing rules, reporting and clearinghouse connections can differ between them. Two practices on the same brand may not share a single workflow.

The assessment therefore begins with identification: which product, which version, how it is hosted, and who administers it. That is not a formality. A workflow described for one product can be wrong for another, and acting on the wrong description wastes the practice's time.

Payerpath and the clearinghouse layer

Payerpath is a clearinghouse that works with practice management systems, including Veradigm PM, for functions such as claim transmission and related payer exchanges. Some practices route claims through it and others use a different path, so the clearinghouse in use has to be confirmed rather than presumed.

The clearinghouse layer matters because a claim can be rejected there before a payer ever sees it. Support scope has to say whether that layer is included. A team working only inside the practice management system may not see clearinghouse rejections at all.

Following a claim across system, clearinghouse and payer

A denial is not one event. A claim can fail validation in the practice management system, be rejected by the clearinghouse, or be denied by the payer after adjudication, and each point has its own reporting and corrections. Knowing where a claim stopped determines who can fix it.

The review maps those handoff points for the practice's actual setup. It asks who monitors each stage, how status is passed back, and where ownership changes. Without that map, a follow-up team can spend time on claims it cannot influence.

Validation before scope is proposed

Historical Allscripts products do not share one setup, and Veradigm PM is its own product line. Product and version, hosting, clearinghouse relationship, user permissions and contract terms are all confirmed before scope is described. A signed business associate agreement is required for any access.

We agree on the authorized work, reporting and fees after identifying the actual product and billing workflow. Synergy provides independent billing services; product names do not imply vendor certification or partnership.

What to discuss first

  • Which product and version does the practice actually run, and under which Veradigm or Allscripts name?
  • Is Payerpath or another clearinghouse handling claim transmission, and who administers it?
  • Where do rejections appear at each layer, and who currently monitors them?
  • Do contract terms and user permissions allow an outside team authorized access under a BAA?

Common questions

Are Veradigm PM and older Allscripts products the same?

It depends on the product. Some products were renamed, while other current and historical Allscripts or Veradigm products have different workflows. We confirm the exact practice-management product, version and clearinghouse route before agreeing on billing support.

Does Payerpath change who does the billing work?

Payerpath is a clearinghouse layer, not a replacement for claim preparation and follow-up. The practice still needs someone to review claims before transmission, handle rejections and work payer denials. The review defines which of those tasks sit inside the practice management system and which appear in the clearinghouse.

Can a timeline be confirmed before we talk?

No timeline is offered without the assessment. Product, version, access, clearinghouse path and contract terms all affect what is practical. Scope and fees are confirmed in writing afterward, and the practice decides whether to proceed.
